The Best Low Carb Snacks on Amazon in 2024

In the shopping world of 2024, so much of our purchases are done online. We can shop from our couch in our pj’s and then magically our order appears on our front door a few days later. I use a few different online shopping marketplaces, but Amazon is a great place to find some of my best low carb snacks and favorite treats.

How to Read Food Labels when Low Carb Shopping

When starting a low-carb or keto journey, mastering the art of reading food labels becomes a crucial skill for making informed and healthy choices. Start by focusing on the “Total Carbohydrates” section, and within that, distinguish between dietary fiber and sugars. Opt for products with higher fiber content to minimize the impact on your net carb intake.

Check for hidden sugars under various names, ensuring that your chosen snacks don’t compromise your carb goals. Remember to pay attention to serving sizes, as they can significantly impact the actual carb intake. Explore the ingredient list for any additives, preservatives, or high-carb fillers that may sneak into seemingly innocent snacks.

Additionally, prioritize whole, unprocessed foods, and be wary of marketing claims; “low-carb” doesn’t always equate to keto-friendly. Armed with these label-reading tips, you can confidently navigate the aisles, ensuring that each purchase aligns seamlessly with your low-carb and keto lifestyle.

How to Calculate Net Carbs when Low Carb Shopping

Net carbs represent the total carbohydrate content of a food item minus the dietary fiber and sugar alcohols, if any. The rationale behind calculating net carbs is that dietary fiber and sugar alcohols have minimal impact on blood sugar levels compared to other carbohydrates. Subtracting these components from the total carbohydrates provides a more accurate measure of the carbs that affect blood sugar and insulin levels.

The formula for calculating net carbs is:
Net Carbs = {Total Carbohydrates} – {Dietary Fiber} – {Sugar Alcohols}

For individuals following low-carb or keto diets, monitoring net carbs can be more meaningful than simply tracking total carbs. It helps ensure that the chosen foods align with the desired macronutrient ratios without compromising dietary goals. It’s important to note that individual responses to certain sugar alcohols may vary, and some people choose to count only a portion of sugar alcohols in their net carb calculations.

*Always consult with a healthcare or nutrition professional to determine the best approach for your specific dietary needs.
